Mono Katari Project
Vol.1 “Wearing Weaving”
The 10 A-line dresses with Japanese” Sakizome” yarn-dyed woven fabrics.
Collaboration with Takumi Dream Association, Mitsuke city, Niigata, Japan
The concept of this collaboration is to display ten Sakizome fabrics by sewing them into simple A-line dresses. This simplicity of the dress design is to illuminate the qualities of the fabrics and patterns. It allows the fabrics to be experienced as a work of art and evokes the sensual in their sight and touch. This project is a collaboration with the Takumi Dream Association from Mitsuke City, a region with over 100 years of tradition Sakizome fabrics. Additionally, the project showcases a few fabrics woven from leftover yarns. The photographer Melanie Hinds, who specialises in documentary and authentic human portrayals will capture and convey the characteristics and natural appearance of the fabric. Those modelling the dresses are not professional models but the creators themselves, with other acquaintances in Brisbane.
